Services
According to the local oral history, the Houchen family owned the pharmacy in Utica. During the depression years, Ervin Houchen attended the University of Nebraska to train in pharmacy, but decided not to pursue that as a career. Upon returning to town, he began working with the local book repair person.
Since 1935, Houchen Bindery has provided book binding and preservation services for universities, public libraries, schools, printers, publishers, and individuals all over the country. We offer personalized delivery service throughout the greater third of Mid-America and work with clients spanning from coast to coast.
Meaning the binding of many books, edition binding is common among printers, commercial printers, publishers and book distributors who need to outsource their materials to be bound. A standard binding method, library binding has a number of binding types available, such as for periodicals, newspapers, and theses.
The bindery will be trimming three (head, tail, and fore edge) and sometimes four edges (plus the spine). For a quality book, please leave at least 3/4 blank margin for us to work with. Depending on method of binding, we will be trimming three (head, tail, and fore edge) and sometimes all four edges. Please contact us in advance for specifics on imposition of your pages.
