This matters that a raised surface is inked and pressed into a sheet of paper. This raised surface can be metal type, wood type, a photoengraved plate made of copper, magnesium or photopolymer, a woodcut or wood engraving, or even a carved linoleum block. For majority of our printing at Julie Holcomb Printers, we use steel-backed photopolymer plates.

Your wedding invitations will delight your guests and become cherished keepsakes of your ceremony and festivities. At Julie Holcomb Printers, we create beautiful, distinctive letterpress invitations for your wedding that express your taste and style as well as your commitment to environmental responsibility.
Hand-written notes carry a personal message with a thoughtfulness that is especially welcome in this age of telephones and computers. An elegant note is a gift in itself, and a gift package of notes by Julie Holcomb Printers is an expression of warm regard as it is a reflection of your appreciation of beautiful things.
Drawing on her long experience letterpress printing on fine papers from all over the world, Julie has collaborated with skilled paper makers to design a superior artisanal paper for our wedding invitations. We use 100% cotton pulp, for incomparable softness and strength, pressed against specially woven wool felts for an elegant and refined natural texture.
For six centuries, fine gold leaf foil has been applied to bound and trimmed pages of treasured books and manuscripts, so that when the pages are separated, the edges of each individual sheet gleam with gold. This traditional practice of edge-gilding continues into modern times as an element of the craft of fine bookbinding and in our edged cards.
Letterpress is relief printing. This means that a raised surface is inked and pressed into a sheet of paper. This raised surface can be metal type, wood type, a photoengraved plate made of copper, magnesium or photopolymer, a woodcut or wood engraving, or even a carved linoleum block. For most of our printing at Julie Holcomb Printers, we use steel-backed photopolymer plates. The relief is produced by exposing the plate material to ultraviolet light through a negative, and then washing it in a water bath.

I am a long-time customer of Julie Holcomb Printers, and a long-time colleague of hers in the design and print world. I've worked with Julie and a number of her employees over decades. The quality of the printing is excellent and interactions consistently honest and respectful. Wondering the source of the anonymous one-star reviewer's information, and the reviewer's motivation for posting -- looks suspiciously like a political smear.

This review is in response to the 1 star review claiming that Julie mistreats employees and is disorganized. As a former employee I feel the need to say that this is simply untrue. Julie is a fantastic boss and I believe that the 1 star review was an attempt to punish her for political reasons. It's sad seeing someone go out of their way to be vindictive like that, especially as Trump seems to be making cruel lies on the internet the new normal.

I have known and worked with Julie for 30 years, as a designer and colleague. It's always a pleasure to collaborate with her - Julie is not only a master of her craft, but she seeks excellence in everything she puts her mind and heart into. Countless times I've sought her expertise and she always provides honest, sound advice and outstanding quality of work.
